Honor System - All assignments submitted shall be considered graded work and shall be completed on an individual basis unless otherwise stated. While discussing assignments and getting help outside of class is both authorized and encouraged, copying solutions from any source is considered a violation, as is sharing or re-use of a computer file. It is your responsibility to seek clarification if there is a question about how the Honor Code applies to a given assignment.

This document fully explains how the Honor Code of Virginia Tech applies to this course. If you have questions about this document or how the Honor Code applies, see me. My intentions are to make these guidelines clear for your protection, and to prevent misunderstandings.

The constitution of the Honor System explains your rights and responsibilities. All work that you submit for a grade while at Virginia Tech is bound by this constitution, regardless of whether or not it is pledged. The Honor Pledge is, "I have neither given nor received unauthorized assistance on this assignment." The forms of authorized assistance are completely stated below; any other types of assistance are unauthorized.

Homework: You may use your book, your notes, or other books when preparing homework. You may discuss your solutions orally with other students. (Discussion, however, is not the same as dictation!) You may not share written or electronic work with other students in any form. If I receive two submissions that clearly originated from the same Excel file, I will submit those assignments to the Honor System without notice to you.

Group Work: You will collaborate with members of your group when completing these assignments. You and your group members may use your book or your notes in completing these assignments. You should submit only one assignment for the whole group, with the names of each group member on that assignment. Ensure that everyone from the group understands the solution you've found. You may not share work on these assignments outside your group.

Tests/Final Exam: No assistance is authorized for tests or the Final Exam. The work you submit must be independently achieved without the use of a textbook, notes, or assistance from other people. Calculators may be permitted on some in-class tests, and if so, I will announce this in class two weeks in advance. Calculators will not be permitted during the Final Exam under any circumstances.
